Let’s take a moment right now and check in with how your shoulders are feeling.
Are your shoulders feeling tight after being in front of a computer all day? Or could it be from sitting in what seems like forever traffic? Have you been in one position for an extended period of time that your shoulders are clenching and neck is screaming?
Welcome to this practice on stretching out the shoulders and opening the chest, contributing to better overall posture. You might find yourself feeling energized by the end of it.
This practice might suit as gentle for some and for others, it might be REALLY intense. Go at your own pace and with what your body is telling you today.
Here’s what this looks like:
Time Stamps:
- 0:33 – Scapula articulation rotations
- 1:45 – Garudasana (aka Eagle) arms + tilt
- 4:00 – Shoulder Flossing (this one is my favorite)
- 5:55 – Tricep stretch with Lateral Flexion of the side body
- 7:08 – Bicep stretch
Before you get started, you’ll need a strap (replace with dog leash or towel, something similar). A block can come in handy when you need to place your head on something.
*Pro tip: try not to resist the shoulders, listening to them and going as far as there isn’t any tension. If there’s an area that feels sticky, stay there and breathe through it or back off away from it.
Okay, that covers it friend.
It’s my hope that finding more space in your shoulders and chest can also contribute to other parts of the body feeling more spacious and relieved.
Happy practicing!
